Trick or Treat...Fall asleep!

We had trick or treating on Sunday. Neither Karilyn or Heidi could decide on what they were going to wear. Karilyn finally had a real pretty princess dress picked out and Heidi kept going back and forth between a skunk and a cow, and sometimes a dog.

It came time to leave and Karilyn changed her mind and went upstairs and put on a too small princess dress nightgown thing with brown polka-dot tights and a maroon long-sleeved shirt underneath.

Heidi thought she wanted to wear the skunk, but then at the last minute threw a fit and wanted it off. She said she would be the cow, but I couldn't get that on her either! So she had it in the wagon and wore black pants and a white shirt. It would have been really cute with a cow over top.

Heidi didn't make it half way around the neighborhood before she was out cold! It should have been her favorite activity too, going around and getting "nandy".

Notice how she is at least "holding" her costume

Don't worry, we still have our status as the neighborhood hooligans, everyone else's kids looked really cute and wore appropriate costumes.

I won't be quiting my day job...

to become a hair cutter lady.

Karilyn cuts her hair on a pretty regular basis. Usually it's just a little here or a little there. Like the other day, she was making a scrapbook page of Heidi's first haircut, ha ha, and she cut off just a little bit of her own hair to paste on to the page. Not today, it was a little off the top, a little off the sides, a little from the back, a little everywhere. I'm sad because she cut bangs! It was just starting to look nice too! She told me she wanted to look like Laura.

This picture doesn't really do it justice to how bad it was after she cut it.

So I'm too cheap and lazy to take her to the haircutting place. So I thought I'd give it a try myself. Here are the after pictures. I tried to make it look like Laura's haircut as much as possible. She was really pleased with how it turned out. I kind of just "ignored" the part where she cut bangs, you can still see it in the pictures a little.

Yum!

Tonight I gave Dave directions on making dinner while I went out for a run. I've made this once before and it is yummy, and very easy to make! It has 3 ingredients:

Sausage
Apples
and Brown Sugar

Cook the sausage about half way and then add the apples (peeled, thinly sliced and dipped in brown sugar) and finish cooking. Don't ask about times, I have no recipe, I just guess.

And here is Heidi icing the cake!

They didn't prepare me for this in school...

My kids have GOT to stop putting things in their mouths. Karilyn got a little jingle bell stuck to her teeth. It wasn't easy to get off either, I had to kind of bend/pry it off, it was embedded in her gums. Yikes!

Our Vacation

Last weekend we went to Washington DC and Virginia. We left Friday morning at 4:30 and got to DC at about 10:30. We then went to the Museum of natural History. We had lunch there and we're very excited about this Triceratops cookie:

Then we left for the White House where we got to visit Janet Creighton (Canton's old Mayor) at her really cool office building next to the White House. She gave us a tour of the building and took us out onto part of the White House lawn. Those dogs were SCARY!
Karilyn took this picture of us in front of the White House.
After the White House, we went back to the Museum. Karilyn and Heidi's favorite part of the museum was "drying" their hair under the hand dryers.
They were also really impressed with the rocks in Washington DC.

Then we were off to Virginia. We stayed with my brother Ken and his Wife Valli. Thanks guys! Their house is so cute and Ken has the coolest workshop ever! Valli did a wonderful job blogging about our visit!

We went to the beach on Sunday. We met my other brother Dan and his Wife Caiti. We got to see their new house. It was really nice!

Karilyn spelled her name in the sand.
Heidi LOVED the giant sandbox!

And finally, on Monday, we went back to DC to go to the Air and Space museum. We spent most of our time in the gift shop.
Karilyn was ready to go home!

A Rainbow Cake for Karilyn's Birthday

Happy Birthday Karilyn!

My little girl turns 5 tomorrow! We celebrated her birthday yesterday with a rainbow cake. Her Grandmas, Grandpas, and Uncle Joe came to celebrate with us. We had a lot of fun. We got Jimmy Johns subs and I made beans and soup, but the cake was the highlight of the party.
It was six layers tall!
In rainbow colors!
I borrowed 4 cake pans, doubled my favorite yellow cake recipe, divided it up and colored them all. Then after baking we iced it.

We had so much fun making this cake.

Is this appropriate for blogging?

So I never quite know how or when to tell people this sort of thing. I always end up feeling embarrassed and weird. I hope no one is offended by finding out this way, I was hoping to avoid the awkwardness. I have this book of cartoons and I thought I'd let the cartoons do the talking...

We're very excited!

Michael Phelps...?

This first picture was supposed to be a video, but I couldn't figure out how to upload videos. It was cute too!
So Heidi loves "swimming". She doesn't like water much though! She puts on Karilyn's cap and goggles and pretends to swim. Tonight she put the goggles on and ran around the house doing a swimming motion with her arms. It was so hilarious!

Karilyn had actual swim class tonight, the kind that has "real water". She spent more time under the water than above it. I kept looking over and not seeing her and then she'd pop up and go right back under again. I have no idea how she heard her teachers.
